Does the card have "RAM GS" printed on it? This is a 4MB
card. If half the card is filled, it has 2MB (giving your IIGS
3MB).
Sequential also makes an 8MB RAM card. This card would
have "RAM GS Plus" printed on it. If you have this card, a
half filled card is 4MB.
I don't know the chips used.
