I guess Canadians are traditionalists.  ;-)

When I was in Canada some time ago, there was a law that
prohibited businesses from opening on Sundays.  Even the
supermarkets!  This was in Ontario province, by the way.  At
the time, there were a couple of markets open on Sundays
because they found paying the fine was more than offset by
the extra profits.

There was a big fiasco as the authorities stepped in.  I don't
know what eventually happened because I left for the States
before this was resolved.

In the US, you know that this would not even be an issue.
Folks of other religions would sue and the free market would
take over again.  I can't say I remember a time when stores
were forced to close on Sundays in the US.
