Re: Macintosh 5 1/4" drive wanted

Oops! Wrong computer! The drive is actually in my Macintosh II... As a
matter of fact, the drive doesn't work in any model after the Macintosh
II because later models include the FDHD ROM. The only two computers
that supported this drive, along with the right controller, worked only
on the Macintosh SE and II (the SE had a different controller card).

The drive is also accessed by using the Apple File Exchange utility.
The drive also only reads MFM formatted disks, aka MS-DOS formatted
disks. Unfortunately, it doesn't read ProDOS or DOS 3.3 diskettes.

Apple does mention a different drive being made by Dayna
Communications. I doubt it's still in production, but I'd look around
for it on the for sale lists and eBay.

Wouldn't it be cool if some hardware hacker actually put together an
adapter/driver package that'll let you attach the Apple 5.25 drive to a
Macintosh with a drive port?
