Telnet is mainly for accessing shell accounts over the internet.

You said earlier that there were no local ISPs that you could dial up to.
But let's say you had a shell account in France.  Are you going to dial
long distance to connect?  No.

Assuming you have your helper apps set up correctly, you just type
in the Netscape URL bar:

telnet:telnet.address

Where "telnet.address" is replaced with the telnet address of your
shell account.

SIS works through telnet.  It uses telnet to access remote servers
then commands them to transfer HTML documents over the telnet
link.

As you can see above, you can telnet through a TCP/IP connection
(what you would do if you run telnet through Netscape).  If you
were logged on to a shell account, you can also run telnet from
there.
