Telnet on the internet is like doing a dial-up to a local BBS. It is
a way to allow you to log on to another machine using text access.
On the IIgs, telnet allows you to connect to a paid Delphi account
($35 US/year for a telnet account) or to connect to lost-gonzo.com
which has two Apple II BBS' as doors off the main PC BBS. There are a
fair number of BBS' that you can telnet to on the internet. My users
group is trying to get their First Class BBS set up on a permanent
connection to the internet so that users can log in using telnet, the
First Class client or a web browser.
If you know what you are doing you can also use telnet to log into a
SMTP, POP3 or FTP server to send mail, read mail or transfer files
respectively.
