I once used a non-card EPROM burner called the "Shooter" (small grey metal
box). It worked well with the IIGS. It used a serial interface, and was
controlled by terminal software on the host computer (GS in this case). You
would send it ASCII character commands to control it. I have seen adds for
other serial interface burners, too. You should be able to find one -- start
hunting.
