And, Forrest replied - as noted in quotes:

"I was disturbed when the sysop/programmer of the A2 BBS T.I.E.S.
(Turnerville, NJ, if memory serves) announced he was putting
the system on the back burner in favor of programming a new BBS
on the Mac in C (Megamax C, I think it was). This was before
color Macs."

So, I reply: I'd guess you were indeed disturbed about that sysop/programmer's
bold decision that he announced. I would have been
too, as I'd suspect most of his Apple II BBS users were.

"I think he was not the only one. Do we count Steve Jobs?"

Sure you should count Steve Jobs. There's always a few in the
crowd that have to take a blind plunge into the :) neXT new road
offered, before the pavement is even dry. Jobs traveled that new road, riding
it at full speed - until the tread on his tires grew bald - then
followed his neXT road to it's end, finding another redesigned old road to
plunge back into with the same old turns and twists he drove down before and
then craftly merged that neXT worn out road with the same old road he traveled
to the ends of before.

Now he's got a multiple lane super hi way constructed to travel on with no
speed limit, that has tons of people lined up at the toll booth - eagar and
waiting to pay their toll and take the thrill ride of their life down his well
planned super hi way with his iMac, G3, G4 and who knows what else to offer
with the next millennium models in the works.

He's got the PC platform, the Apple II - IIgs platform, Unix, Linux, the BeOS
and the Mac platform and so on - all working in a single stylish line of racing
machines - to satisfy most all computer users now, with his hands in a cosmic
clasp and a smile on his chubby little face from ear to ear.

He even has AppleWorks and Applesoft back in his well planned super hi way for
the Mac. And, no doubt those two items with their well known old names from
the Apple II days of past - have won over many old Apple II devotees to dare
and take the plunge into Macland at last.

I don't like Steve Jobs! But, I've got to give the man credit for devising a
formula to draw computer users from many other platforms into his crafty,
stylish Macland in groaning and growing numbers. He's even got me doing most
all of my Apple II related activities now on my PPC's with the Apple Computer,
Inc. IIgs emulator - Gus. :) I've finally got my own IIx and really enjoy
using it too.

Why don't I use Bernie ][ the Rescue - many might ask. It's got so much more
to offer than Gus has (other than Gus having the IIgs ROM 03 built into it).
Well, that's true! And, if I could use Bernie ][ to Rescue, I would. But,
I've been banned from registering Bernie ][ the Rescue. Just as I've been
banned from attending KansasFest and accessing the A2 Delphi forum - (even
though I have an active Delphi member status). Then...of course - I've also
been prohibited from ever mentioning Shareware Solutions II anywhere in any
Internet site I'm involved with or even maintaining the contents of.

And, I have the unique status of being the only person in the entire Apple II
community that has two 'Dr. Tom - Hate Websites' devoted to me - with all their
absurd, childish and insanely great contents. Oh, I almost forgot the Nathan
Mates website that's still online and still fanatically ranting and denouncing
me and all others who ever dared to be friends or associated with me. One
more little jewel - I just discovered today on Tony Diaz's 'apple2.org web site
is a beautiful color jpeg graphic file titled 'TurleyWall' ....url ref.

http://www.apple2.org/KFestImages/Avila/TurleyWall.JPEG

representing the skilled creativity from the KansasFest attendees and their
joint expressions of admiration in a composite rendering honoring me - in my
absence from KansasFest 97. Even with all these things to contend with, I'm
still productive and still giving all I can give to help the majority of the
Apple II users, because they want it, they need it and I like doing it.

Well, at least I've finally got my desired reward with my Apple IIx from Apple
Computer to use and enjoy, each and every day to it's fullest potential - in
both desktop and laptop models too.

You know, strange as it may sound, honestly in all the years I've been an Apple
II user, I've never had any reason or occasion to access any BBS' for anything.

By the way, speaking of BBS' - to get back to that BBS T.I.E.S. in Turnerville,
NJ...is it still in operation?

Cheers & Apple IIx Forever,
Tom
