By running under GS/OS, Spectrum is extremely sensitive to such things as
conflicts between Desk Accessories.
As a member of the Spectrum Internet Suite v1.0 and 1.1 beta test team,
I'd like to suggest that your friend get in the habit of _ALWAYS_
Shift-Booting before running SIS.
During a SIS session, if just a single character is dropped, which is
entirely possible when running Spectrum with a full complement of Desk
Accessories, and that character is an html tag, it can really mess up the
display.
I think that your friend will see that a Shift-Boot makes all the
difference in the world. Also suggested is the upgrade to SIS v1.1, which
should be shipping any second now. For info on that update, check the new
