     Someone here may know (I don't).  Ideally, this is an Apple II (not a Mac
or PC) newsgroup.

     My guess would be that if the password is any good as a protection, you
would have to insert some special diskette, open the case and flip a switch,
etc. in order to have an opportunity to set up a new password. Mac users with a
similar problem involving CD-ROM access can get help at an Apple dealer; so,
probably, that is where you should go for help with a Mac laptop password
problem.

     If you have a Mac laptop, a good place to post your question would be a
Mac newsgroup such as comp.sys.mac.system .
