The first Mac came out in 1984, and the IIgs wasn't released until 1986,
so the Mac had a GUI before the IIgs did - before the IIgs even existed
internally, in fact. The "IIx" project which led to the IIgs may have
been active by the time the Mac 128 came out, but it wasn't much more
than a hardware design. The IIgs Toolbox was clearly derived from the
Mac one.

The IIgs was the first Apple machine to get a limited _colour_ GUI: for
desktop applications, but not for the Finder-like Apple II Desktop
program. (The real IIgs Finder wasn't released until late 1987 or early
1988, by which time the Mac had full colour support.)

Anyway, the Lisa had a GUI desktop back in 1983 (or was it 82?). The
Mac GUI looked and operated quite differently from the Lisa one.
