No.  As I said earlier in another thread, I tested a 56k null-modem link
between ProTERM 3.1 and HyperTerminal.  I turned of my TWGS and
the IIGS kept up with 56k easily.  The IIGS can easily do this speed
without acceleration.  It can do 230k under AppleTalk after all (not to
mention transfers an order of magnitude faster through SCSI).

However, I think Z-Link IS limited to 19.2k, NOT because of any limitation
of the IIGS serial port or chip, but because Z-Link uses the control
panel settings rather than providing a driver that goes up to 56k like
ProTERM 3.1 does.

Again, ProTERM on an unaccelerated IIGS can null-modem at 56k fine.
No reason to slow it down.  Remember to shift-boot, though.
