With NiftySpell's ability to add a custom dictionary, perhaps a good
starting point would be the Spanish dictionary that Stephen Harker
pointed out is a text file and available at:

        http://fmg-www.cs.ucla.edu/geoff/

If that Spanish dictionary file really is just straight ASCII, it would
be time consuming, but you could just use NiftySpell's "Check File"
option on that file, and add all the words to a brand new Spanish-only
Custom Dictionary.

We haven't forgotten about you Louis, and in fact, I thought of you
immediately when Chris Vavruska shared with me his thoughts for a
NiftySpell update that would include an editor for NiftySpell's main
dictionary. That said, an update is just being thought about, and I don't
think that Chris has generated a single line of code yet. So, it may or
may not happen.

As a reminder Louis, the only real problem we had back when we did try to
create a Spanish custom dictionary for NiftySpell is that we didn't have
a Spanish dictionary in ASCII format. If that one online is indeed ASCII,
then it could easily be converted into a NiftySpell custom dictionary.

For those reading this who are unfamiliar with NiftySpell, it's Universal
Spell Checker for the IIGS. It's in the form of a New Desk Accessory, so
it can be used in any GS/OS program that displays the Apple Pull Down
menu. NiftySpell can spell check files on disk, and can even spell check
any open TextEdit window, so it can be used with any GS/OS word processor
like Hermes or in programs like HyperStudio or HyperCard.

NiftySpell requires System 6.0.1, and it comes with an XCMD for Spectrum
so that spell checking is now a seamless part of Spectrum. In the
soon-to-be Spectrum Internet Suite v1.1 release, there's even a spell
check button in SIS's e-mail module.

NiftySpell costs all of $20 and is available only from Shareware
Solutions II.
