Scott Alfter describes the Zip dip switches as follows:

1-1 Cxxx/Dxxx cache disable (default: on--enables caching of 0xC000-0xDFFF)
1-2 joystick delay (default: off--slows system down for joystick access)
1-3 AppleTalk delay (default: on--allows AppleTalk to work properly)
1-4 counter delay (default: off--self-test will fail)
1-5 CPS follow (default: off--ZipGS disables @ 1 MHz)
1-6 ZipGS disable (default: on--ZipGS enabled at boot)
1-7, 1-8 cache size
    size 1-7 1-8

     8K   on  on
    16K   on off
    32K  off  on
    64K  off off

2-1 through 2-7 slot delay (enabled for slot n when switch n is on)
2-8 speaker delay (default: off--doesn't slow down for 0xC03x access)

So I suspect you need to flip switch 1-6 to the opposite position it is
in right now in order to actually accelerate your unit.

Zip GS will kick in if you change the position of switch 1-6.

I do not think the problem is with your ZipGS.  More likely, check
your memory card's SIMMs and make sure the jumpers or DIP
switches on the card are set correctly for the memory that is
installed.

If it is not the hardware, check to make sure you do not have a set
of corrupted System 6.0.1 install disks.  Good luck!
