Granted, for transferring enormous blocks of stuff, 56k will take a
while. But, then, how often does a user have 100MB of Apple II downloads to
move at one sitting?
Another consideration is this: Where do you put the 100MB of stuff you
have on a Zip disk in MS-DOS format if you are using the Zip drive on your
IIgs as your system's hard disk?
Hubble seems to be counting on using a single Zip drive. Carting stuff
between computers on MS-DOS Zip disk seems to assume the presence of a hard
disk or second Zip drive connected to the GS. Otherwise, you are left with
very time-consuming and bothersome swapping.
With NULL modem, you just start the PC --> GS transfer and, when it's
done, that's it-- no disks to move around or MS-DOS conversions or need for
extra drives. And, transfers go just as easily the other way. If your PC has
two serial ports, you do not even need to go off-line.
