I tried your sugestion but the wiring idea did not work.  The ImageWriter II
still works with an Apple IIgs so maybe the problem lies in the settings of
the Dip switchs in the printer or the computer settings.  The self test
revealed the following:

SELF TEST

ROMREV(01)

DIPSW1(00000100)  DIPSW2(1100) , '1=ON,0=OFF'

RAM= 24 KB  AT=OFF

The settings of the PC are to connect to a C.Itoh 8510A at 9600 Baud with no
parity and flow control set to hardware.  Thanks for any help you can
supply.
