What is that mysterious little footnote under my OS?

I first noticed it when I bought my new B&W G3. It doesn't appear on my
PowerBook G3 however.

With these new systems is Apple abandoning the system ROM altogether?

Does that mean that in the future I can expect upgrade cards for the
PowerBook G3? (the ROM is mounted on the processor)
