The one that I used to have was made by PLI, but the mechanism was made by
Insite which is who I think most of them were made by. Anyway the PLI that
I had was an external drive that was about the size of an external 800K
floppy. It had two 50-pin centronics connections on the back and a SCSI id
selector. You could use just about any type of 3.5 media that was available
at the time. The floptical disk themselves look very much like a normal
3.5, but they typically have some sort of marking on them identifying them
as a floptical disk. Also, if you pull the metal cover aside and hold it up
to the light, you will see that the disk is semi-transparent. Each disk
typically is supposed to hold 21 Meg, but I don't think I ever got that
much. Someone who still has one could probably give you better info there.
Works real good with a RamFast. No special drivers needed. That is about
all I remember. Sorry I could not be of more help.

Chuck :-)
