Re: The sad Truth about iMac:
Hmmm, of all the things that come to mind when I think of the iMac,
compact little machine isn't one of them. It's about as compact and
luggable as my old Apple II+ (which I used to lug around in my Epson
MX-80/FT printer box). I haven't seen a closed architecture machine yet
that wasn't born with one foot in the grave. Even open-architecture Macs
tend to be of questionable life span as Apple obsoletes the latest and
greatest so fast. If I were looking at a compact portable machine
I'd be looking at a laptop or one of the many back-of-the-curve
powerbooks. I kinda like used powerbooks (new laptops are so darned
expensive) because they generally run full-blown operating systems
instead of a distilled down version. Plus, when I use a laptop it's
usally for a special purpose or temporary and I stay away from applications
where cross platform issues are a problem (which is what killed the
Mac in mainstream use where I work). But them again, one of my favorite
portables in an old PB 145 with a 40 Mb hard drive running System 7.1,
so what do I know :/
Have fun!
