I'm not an expert on this, but Carmack is, and he said long ago that he
loves OpenGL and hates Direct3D. I'll take his word for it.

Wrong-o! If you have money to burn, "buy forward in the curve", but so
what, next year your expensive machine is going to be outdated. Buy at
the point on the curve where you get the most bang for your buck, and
your machine will also be outdated in a year, but you'll have saved a
bundle. I figure the most bang for your buck is a IIgs these days. :)

I've criticized the iMac for having a silly mouse and most of the
hardware for a floppy, but no floppy, but it seems to be a great
off-the-shelf solution for a lot of people. I wish it success.
