Yes, there is a workaround.  It seems the System 6.0 LaserWriter driver
is more tolerant than the System 6.0.1 LaserWriter driver of generating
third-party printer readable PostScript.  I use the LaserWriter driver to
print AppleWorks GS page layout documents to files so that I can load
them up in a Windows PC program such as Corel DRAW.  I keep the
System 6.0 LaserWriter driver handy even though I have System 6.0.1.
