Printing to Appletalk from a shell

For all you localtalk experts. I am trying to print to a DeskWriter on a
localtalk network but I have tried to print from the ORCA and the GNO
shells. I get outptut out to the printer when I use the lprps utility.
However, everything appears on the same line.

Then I went to Basic.system and selected PR#7. This produced readable
results but each line on output appeared immediately after the previous
line, wrapping to the next line on the paper when the printed output
reached the right margin. The output showed that the CR and LF but they
were not interpreted. The output also was printed white on black.

What am I missing to get output to a DeskWriter on a localtalk network?
It seems that this has been tried before by others.
