There was a copy protection scheme that checked tracks $22-$23 repeatedly
during the boot process. The noise made by the stepping motor as the head
traveled from tracks $0-2 to $22-23 and back did sound a lot like heavy
breathing.
My friends and I could identify games by listening to the sounds the
drive made when it booted. Then we quizzed each other: "What's the game
that goes 'Brrrrrt, dzt dzt, dzzzt, dz-dz-dzzzzt'?". Dazzle Draw was
my favorite because of the slurping sounds (due to quarter-tracking).
