Hey all,
On a related topic to the splotchy disk drives, dead foam, and other
things, I've got a small question. What about the drive-belts in the
5.25" drives? Similar belts, in record players, other disk drives (CBM
1541, Atari 520ST SSDD 3.5), 8track players and countless other sources
have what I call a 'meltdown' somewhere in their advanced age... I have
gotten numerous devices where the internal belt driving the motor/disk
has 'melted' into a weird pile of sticky black goo. An Atari I was
given did it, an old 8-track, and my favorite linear-tracking vinyl
player all had this problem. Has anyone ever encountered this problem
with Apple drives/equiptment? I found though, that the easiest solution
was a rubber band... Both the vinyl player and 8-track responded to
this, and my Atari drive keeps throwing the band, but otherwise it
mostly works... Anyone have any thoughts or experience on the subject?
