The Integer BASIC also had a couple of optional add-on kits to provide
additional functions such as hi-res graphics and fast sorting. These "kits"
were basically just ROM chips that plugged into the empty sockets. At the
school where I used to work, we had two Apple ][+ and two Apple ][ computers.
The ][+s had Integer ROM cards in slot 0, while the Apple ][s had AppleSoft
ROM cards. Each card had a switch in the back to select which ROM set would be
used on power up. Since Integer BASIC booted into the machine language
monitor, we had all four set to select AppleSoft's Autostart ROM so they were
all functionally identical. Or so we thought, until we came across a program
(don't ask me what it was now!) that refused to run on the Apple ][s. It
apparently didn't like running without the ROM's that were actually on the
motherboard (and don't ask me how it could tell the difference!). Anyway, I
swapped all the ROM chips so the Apple ][ became a ][+ and the AppleSoft ROM
card became an Integer ROM card, and the program ran fine.

Hope this helps,
Dennis
