All Apple IIs can access the InterNet via an ISP's UNIX shell
account. That will give you basic access to LYNX (web), TIN (news), PINE
(email), TELNET (telnet) for example.
For the Apple IIgs, you can set up Marinetti which gives you
TCP/IP stacks for the Apple IIgs, and then use Spectrum InterNet Suite to
view web-pages (limited graphics), there are also Telnet programs from it.
Of course, Marinetti is still considered fairly recent product, so there
will be upcoming programs for the full potential to be exploited.

I used to just call into uni and access a UNIX shell account to
get all what I want. As for FTP'ing stuff, it gets downloaded into my UNIX
account then use Zmodem to transfer it to me.
Of course, spreadsheets and stuff are still being used on the
Apple IIs, including running of BBSes, just to name some.
