Another IIgs newbie
Hi all!
I just purchased a IIgs system for $15 at a thrift store for two of my
daughters (ages 12 & 10). They are already thrilled with it, but I'd like to
see what I can do to make it more useful for them.
It is a WOZ Limited Edition (but I have no idea what that tells me). It came
with a 3-1/2" floppy, a 5-1/4" floppy, and an AppleColor RGB monitor. It also
came with some 3-1/2" disks including the original Apple System Disk & System
Tools (Version 4.0). It also came with some educational software such as
Reader Rabbit, Writer Rabbit & Math Blaster Plus.
Unfortunately, my first computer was a Mac Plus so I completely MISSED the
Apple II series and know nothing about them. The computer did not come with
manuals of any kind. I read Supertimer's reply to the original Newbie at
Apple IIgs posted on the 17th.
I am specifically interested in figuring out how to obtain more software. I
saw the reference to the ground.ecn.uiowa.edu site but with only the
directory structure found there am not sure where to start or what I want.
I am also interested in knowing how my Macs can interact with the IIgs. Can I
format IIgs disks in my Mac? Is that the ProDOS option??? Can I download IIgs
software to a IIgs formatted disk in my Mac and then stick it in the IIgs to
run?
Also, is there a way to change the Monitor resolutions in the IIgs?
And can I hook an ImagewriterII up to it? How about an Imagewriter LQ?
How do I find out how much RAM my machine has in it?
I have a 20 meg external Mac HD. If I get a SCSI card for the IIgs, can I
format it and use it as an external HD on the IIgs?
My girls and I thank you for any answers!!!
