Yes, the 550c has both parallel and serial ports.  I currently have one
hooked up to my IIGS (through the parallel port).

I personally much prefer my 550c over the 500 I used to have.  The 550c has
80K for a buffer while my 500 had 16K.  I also have a 256K ram expansion
module installed in my 550c set up to be used as an additional buffer 
instead of fonts.
