Only the older DeskJets, model 500 and one other (550? someone please clarify)
had a serial connection in addition to the parallel. If you can buy a used
DeskJet 500, grab it. It works on the //c with AppleWorks. I may have one for
sale soon, as soon as I can convince myself that the 400 is as wonderful as the
500 was.
I think you can buy a parallel interface for the //c. I have never tested this
with the DeskJet. If someone would loan me the //c parallel interface, I'll
test it, as long as I don't have to open up the //c to do it.
An article describing the complete AppleWorks setup for the DeskJet 400 series
and other DeskJet printers (including how to get all the "fancy stuff") will be
in the upcoming Jan/Feb issue of TEXAS II, newsletter for users of
AppleWorks(R) 5.1 and other versions of AppleWorks.
