The battery is external to the IC (I think it is embedded in the underside
of the socket). The battery terminals are clearly marked on the PCB - the
PLUS terminal is adjacent to pins 13 and 14 while the MINUS terminal is
adjacent to pins 15 and 16. This is for a DS1216B or DS1216C. You could
easily cut the -ve track as it is on the top side of the PCB and connect
an external power source to the +ve terminal and the cut trace. The pins
are near the large B or C on the PCB.
