There was a discussion about this sort of thing a while ago.  Most
people seem to agree that a 4x is the fastest that is worth getting
for a IIgs.  I still think a 6x would be noticably faster but I have
no way to test this.  A 6x can transfer data at 900 kb/s and the IIgs'
maximum throughput is around 1 MB/s.

At any rate, anything beyond a 6x speed CD-ROM drive on a IIgs will
not see any real improvement in speed.
