The maximum speed of an Apple IIgs modem port (the one built into the 
IIgs, not one that comes from an add-in board like the Super Serial
Card) is 57600bps, not 19200.  19200bps is but the maximum selectable
in the control panel.  A good program like ProTerm (or MouseTalk, to a
lesser degree) will take advantage of the IIgs's higher speeds.  I
would imagine Spectrum would take advantage of those speeds, too.
