The IIgs serial ports can be set up to transfer data at 57600 bps but
the program you are using has to support it. Currently I'm running
Spectrum v2.2 and Marinetti v2.0 on my 8 MHz IIgs with the port speed
set to 57600 bps to a Zoom 33600 bps modem and everything is working
just fine.

In fact, I was running Marinetti v2.0 on my machine before I got the
accelerator at 38400 bps with either no or very few problems because I
didn't notice any major problems. :-)

If you are using ProTerm, as far as I know, you need to have v3.1 at
least to run the port at 57600 bps. v3.0 can run at a max of 38400
bps and v2.2 maxes out at 19200 bps.
