It's not that simple. The Commodore 64 (and 128) is a very tightly timed
machine that apart from a similar CPU shares virtually nothing in common
with an Apple 2. In order to make it compatible, CMD would have to
totally redesign their Commodore accelerator for a market that's so
small they'd probably have trouble selling 300 units. There's no way
they could turn a profit off of that. 

To make matters worse, CMD has not been making enough money off their
Commodore side of the business to justify any new R&D. As of late,
they've been using their PC/Mac shop to keep themselves afloat. If they
can't make money off the Commodore users they're not going to pursue
little fish like us.
