What to do when software goes bad (Toy Shop, Science Toolkit)

I have an original Broderbund science toolkit with a program disk that's now
gone bad. I had never been able to make a backup copy of the original disk. 
I've also got the original Toy Shop ready to go with all the materials, but
of course, no system disks for it. I tried sending email to Broderbund, which
I imagine will probably amount to very little. So what happens when 
your last copy finally goes bad. Is that it, or are there people out there
that have these programs too and that can support those with disks gone
to hell...
