How to display a picture when shutting down the computer?

I need help. I added a jpeg file into the shutdown folder hoping that the
system would display it during shutdown but it throws back to me saying the
application that created the file cannot be found. It suggests I open the file
with other application. I opened it with Quick Time Picture Viewer. How can I
resolve it? By the way, in my system folder there is another startup and
shutdown folder but being disabled. Can I trash it safely? Thanks!!!
