[I've removed comp.sys.apple, which hasn't existed for about ten years,
and set followups to comp.sys.apple2, which is the only appropriate
group.]
The IIgs monitor has almost nothing in common with Mac monitors. It
expects horizontal scan frequencies similar to television (15.75 kHz or
thereabouts), and its vertical resolution is limited to around 200 lines
(noninterlaced, double for interlaced).
Mac monitors are like VGA and higher derivatives: minimum horizontal
scan frequency is in the region of 30 kHz, and vertical resolution is
much higher (typically 480 lines or higher, except for the smallest
monitors that run at 512x384).
