The mouse certainly does work if directly plugged into the IIgs' ADB
port. I know this because I originally upgraded my //e to a IIgs and
bought an Apple Mouse for it shortly after and that is how I used that
machine. The mouse plugged into the ADB port and using the //e
keyboard built into the case of my //e to IIgs upgraded machine. :-)

I later traded the //e keyboard for a French-Canadian Mac SE keyboard
and later yet I bought a IIgs case as a replacement part from an Apple
dealer. :-)

However, even if you don't have a keyboard hooked up to your IIgs, if
you have the Video Keyboard NDA installed on your boot disk, then you
can use the mouse to type stuff on the on screen keyboard and those
keys you click will be sent to the running application as if you had
typed them on a physical keyboard. Works pretty slick.
