     You do not mention trying another mouse. If other supposedly good
mouses do not work, the problem may be with one of the port-related IC's
on the IIe or a connection to the Game Port socket inside the IIe.

     Something else to make sure of is that the software you are using
works correctly with mouses. If you are using an accelerator, it may
need to be turned Off or set to access the game port at 'regular' speed.


     If you decide to try Apprentice's idea of checking for a break,
