DLing SHKs w/ Netscape
The link on how to edit your browser to download Apple files is not
valid, so I have done some playing around to see if I can figger it.
Please tell me if there's something which should be done here in
addition or instead to make this more effective/accurate.
IN NAVIGATOR:
under Edit / Preferences... / Navigator / Applications
New Type...
Description: "Shrink It"
File extention: "SHK BXY"
MIME type: "application/x-apple-2"
Handled by: "SAVE TO DISK"
Highlight 'Shrink It' in the list and click Edit...
Now make sure that the info is correct (SHK BXY, the MIME type, and
that Save To Disk's radio button is selected and no app is
specified... also that "Ask me before opening" is checked)
ON DESKTOP:
under My Computer / View / Options... / File Types
Scroll down to 'Shrink it' and click Edit
Change the icon if you want (I can't get an icon change to 'stick'!)
Make sure the Description, MIME type, and Extentions are okay
If the word "Open" is in Actions, highlight and click Remove
Turn the 'Always Show Extention" on and the other two boxes off
Click OK, and the 'File type details' window should have
nothing listed in "Opens with:"
TO DOWNLOAD OFF THE WEB:
Right-click the SHK/BXY file's link, select 'Save Link As...", etc.
Do *not* left-click the link because Netscape treats SHKs as text!
I've downloaded the latest Super Mario Bros demo with Netscape,
shuffled it over to the GS, and the SHK did open and run (nicely!).
So this all works, but can it be made to work better?
