     The core problem is noise on the IIgs Slot bus. The Slot bus is
noisy because the +5V and +12 power traces on the motherboard are too
skinny. They act like resistors across which noise develops.

     Another problem is skimpy leads from the IIgs Power Supply to the
motherboard. Noise develops across these leads.

     You can reduce noise by adding jumper wires to a couple Slots on
the bottom of the motherboard and by swapping in heavier +5V, +12V, and
GND Power Supply leads. These mods are described in Question 7 in the
