Actually Appleshare 2.0 will support booting Apple IIs but it only runs under
system 6. So if you prefer to run system software from this decade, then
3.0 is the only version.

If Nathan were still here he would give you a dose of his trademark spew
about how expensive Appleshare was. You can find 3.0 for <$100 these days.
But unless you have a workstation card in your //e or know where to get one
cheaply, that approach won't be cost effective over getting a hard disk for 
the //e. Heck, replacing the //e with a IIgs would be cheaper than getting
a workstation card at today's prices. Those of course have networking built 
in.
