Pretty much the way you did it. A 5.25" .dsk file is going to be an
image of a 16-sector per track disk. If the DOS 3.2 diskette includes
copy protection, it may be necessary to both defeat the protection and,
then, modify the software to work on the 16-sector format diskette.
One possible alternative is to produce a .nib image file. I think
this may be doable for 13-sector disks using SST; but, it is not
something I've tried. A disadvantage of a .nib file is that it is a lot
more bother to produce and takes up twice as much space.
