I have been looking at a Asantetalk device and also looked at the
documentation of their asanteprint documentation.
A network capture of Asantetalk startup originally showed it was
talking Ethertalk Phase 1, that is why I looked up the documentation
on the AsantePrint devices.

The Asanteprint documentation show that you can set the default
Ethetalk Phase using the Print manager utility.

I found that it needs a Ethertalk Phase 2 broadcast within the first
10-15 seconds of startup to decide to talk Ethertalk Phase 2
ortherwise it will default to Ethertalk Phase 1 and no talking to
Netatalk server

At this point you can connect up IIe or IIgs and it will talk on the
network ok.
