Re: Netbooting an Apple IIgs from netatalk

Thought I'd weigh in on this. My IIGS is a ROM 03 and has absolutely
no cards in it and only a single 800K floppy attached. (I'm kind of
a //e guy.) I set my netboot startup app to be BASIC.SYSTEM. I netboot
from the GS, and type 10 ? CHR$(4);"CAT":GOTO 10, and RUN it. Within
2-3 minutes it hangs, on either speed. But on my IIe, it runs forever.

This is kind of a bummer because I'd really like there to be a cheap
and easily available bridge for netatalk. The Etherwave and iPrint
seem suitable for a IIe, but for a IIgs, it seems a little less clear.
And don't even get me started on the AsanteTalk...

There is some deep magic associated with reliable IIgs networking. After fooling around with Zip settings, I can now get my accelerated IIgs to stay connected if I boot it with the Zip disabled until after appletalk initialization.

My second IIgs is stock and will not stay connected through either Farallon adapter.

Geoff Body has a bunch of network traces and will hopefully spot something.

All I can say is that the Gatorbox CS works perfectly with all A2 machines and always has. Keep your eyes out for one of these on eBay and all your problems will be solved.
