Y'know, I had to deal with that exact same thing just yesterday.
 
Someone recently gave my sister (SSII's proofreader) her first computer...an
old Mac SE/30. She went to a local computer store to ask about buying a
modem. The salesman said something like: "That computer was discontinued
years ago, and so were all the models of modems that'll work with it. May I
show you this brand new Pentium machine?"
 
The sad thing is...my sister believed the guy :-(
 
I think I'll continue sending her all the Shareware Solutions II articles
for proofreading by snail mail ;-)
