If you happen to have a Super Serial Card in your ][e,and if you can build
your own cable, you can transfer data that way. Use "ADT" or some
terminal/communications software. Personally, I'm not aware of any software
that can transfer info (pc <--> ][e) with the ][e game port. Additionally, a
"loose" Super Serial Card can be bought for as little as $5. Weigh the amount
of personal time and effort versus the cost of a SSC. Compare that to how
important it is to use the game port (you may have your reasons, the ][ series
is a hacker's machine)...
If you _really_ need to do TX/RX with _only_ the joystick port, may I suggest
perhaps using the ][e's internal socket? There you will find not only all the
signals needed for joystick support, but also "annunciators" which can be used
as outputs. I think that port is also available on the ][gs, but surely not
available on the ][c series.
