One way or another, you are going to end up needing extra hardware.
There is no software which will allow a standard PC to read Apple II
diskettes.
A solution is to find a IIgs user who also owns a PC and pay him or
her to transfer the files to PC as plain Text-- easy to do via a NULL
modem connection-- and save the files to PC diskettes.
If you want to handle everthing yourself, the simplest route is,
probably, to get a IIgs and buy a package named "CrossWorks" from
Sequential Systems to handle the transfers. (Sequential is at
http://www.sequential.com . Their number for orders is 800-759-4549.)
An alternative is to get a IIgs and telecom program (like ProTERM 3.1)
and do the transfers via NULL modem.
A third possibility is to get a Trackstar-IIe card and Apple II
5.25" drive for your PC. This will permit reading the diskettes on a PC
and saving files in PC form. The main catch here may be your 200MHz PC.
Many newer PC's have only PCI and two or three two-section 16-bit ISA
slots. Trackstar-IIe is designed to fit in the old single-section 8-bit
ISA slot. The Trackstar-IIe board extends down and over the edge of the
8-bit slot and will not fit if another slot section is present.
You may be able to find a IIgs at a local school or computer club.
For sure, you can find IIgs's and, sometimes, the Trackstar-IIe, for
sale on net auctions ...
