"Write Protection"-problem with DuoDisk on Apple IIe

Hello,

I know, the Apple IIe is an old computer, but maybe someone can help me.

I have a DuoDisk connected to the Apple IIe. The problem is that I
cannot write (or format) any 5,25" DS DD disks. Everytime there appears
a message that I should remove write protection. I am sure that they are
write enabled. I cleaned the optical eyes which check whether the disk
is locked or unlocked. No result.

I think the optical eyes are defect. Is there a work-around by which the
computer skips the write-enabled check?
