Re: IIGS INTERNAL P.S.: Transplant IIe ps innards

I'll pre-test the IIe-to IIgs internal transplant unit on a long-term test
before shipping any. Its capacity ought to be good enough for a
moderately-loaded IIgs (but for a fully-loaded IIgs, every slot filled, my
Bugg-Drive is recommended --- 150 watts in an external unit on the floor.)

The so-called "heavy-duty" internal power supplies for IIe and IIgs, made
by AE and clone-makers, are a joke, in my opinion. Back in 1992/93, I
bought one of each, brand new. They each created heat, they each crashed
(freeze-up) when installed in slot-loaded Apples. They were not
impressive; their black color casing was the biggest difference with the
standard internal power units. My dissatisfaction with these "heavy-duty"
units led me to develop the 150-200 watt Bugg-Power ....

: Sorry David, Ill have to disagree with you on this. The two Apple power
: supplies arent very different in output.

: The output of the IIe power supply is 34.75 watts according to the labels on
: the power supplies and the the Apple IIe Reference manual .

: The output of the IIgs power supply is 36.25 watts according to the labels on
: the IIgs power supplies and confirmed by the Apple IIGS Hardware Reference.
: The IIgs and IIe power supplies both had an input of around 65 watts but half
: of that went up as heat and only half was output.

: The 60 watt power supplies Applied Engineering sold for IIes were meant for
: the IIe & II+,they sold them before there was a IIgs. Later they also sold a
: IIgs
: 60 watt power supply that was an exact duplicate externally of the IIgs power
: supply. This would fit in a IIe or a IIgs case.

: I believe MC Price Breakers still sells a clone of both AE power supplies.
