Socket-izing the IIC's IWM drive-chip???

CAN THE IWM DRIVE-CONTROLLER CHIP BE SOCKETED???
================================================
 IS THERE SUFFICIENT SPACE BENEATH THE DRIVE?
 ============================================

I have several junked IIC motherboards from which components can be
desoldered.

One of my IIC's refuses to operate disk drives, despite its passing of the
internal self-test. I suspect that the fault is the INTEGRATED WOZ
MACHINE, the disk driive controller chip.

This IWM is soldered to the motherboard. I want to desolder the IC,
install a low-profile socked, and then insert the IWM from a different
board into the socket. I know I can do that much successfully --- no big
deal.

QUESTION: The IWM rests beneath the 5.25" internal disk drive. If
socketed, is there enough vertical clearance for the IWM to fit beneath
the drive?

Thanks ---- Steve Buggie
